Pop Montreal Welcomes Beck, Interpol, Metric and More!

Published: 2005-08-12
In the few short years since its inception, the Pop Montreal music festival, an eclectic mix of the hippest in music, art and film (but mostly music), has become one of the most eagerly anticipated events of its kind in the countryónay, even the continent.

Running from September 28th to October 2nd, this year's event is already shaping up to be a doozy (or, as the French might say, un douze). None other than the quiet Scientologist himself, Beck, will perform on the festival's opening day at the Bell Centre. (Hey, maybe Tom and Katie will show up as wellóthere'll be people with cameras there, after all.) NYC hipsters Interpol, meanwhile, will hit the stage at Metropolis the following night.

Homegrown talent this year notably includes Metric, whose eagerly awaited new album Live It Out comes out the week of their appearance. Opening the band's October 1st Club Soda show will be recent Arts & Crafts signees and suburban pop heroes the Most Serene Republic.

Also confirmed are Detroit garage rock legends the Dirtbombs, with the Deadly Snakes and the Sunday Sinners opening their sure-to-be-sweaty Cabaret Music Hall show on day three. And as if that wasn't enough, heavy West Coast rockers and recent Coldplay openers Black Mountain will hit the Theatre National on September 30th.

Individual show tickets are available, while a festival pass will set you back $125. The complete lineup has not yet been announced, but for updates and ticket information, check out popmontreal.com.
