Death Cab for Cutie Hits the Road

Published: 2005-08-11
That's right, the band that made it okay for millions of emo kids to watch The O.C. is about to pull up stakes and hit the highway for a seven week North American tour. Death Cab for Cutie will release Plans, the fifth album for the Seattle-based band and first with a major label, through Atlantic Records on August 30th.

After a few festival shows in Japan and the U.S. and an appearance on Late Night with Conan O'Brien September 27th, the Death Cab boys will kick off their tour right here in lil' old Canada with a two-night stand at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, complete with opening band Youth Group. Beginning halfway through the tour, American fans will have the good fortune of seeing our very own Stars open Death Cab's shows.

Plans represents a series of firsts for the band besides being its major label debut. As the group's new record company helpfully explains, it's the first DCFC album recorded on 48 tracks, the first one recorded on the east coast, and the first with a song not written by Ben Gibbard. That song is "Brothers on a Hotel Bed" by Chris Walla. The third show on the band's tour takes place in a town with the unlikely title of Walla Walla, WA. Coincidence? Probably not.

Death Cab for Cutie's Canadian tour dates (all with Youth Group) look like this:

October 3 & 4, Vancouver, BC - Commodore Ballroom
October 15, Toronto, ON - Kool Haus
October 16, Montreal, QC - the Spectrum
