Indie rock fans, rejoice. Toronto garage/blues monsters the Deadly Snakes have announced the imminent release of their fourth full-length record, Porcella. ‹ber-hip indie label Paper Bag Records (Controller.Controller, Uncut) will send the 13-song album to record stores September 27th.
The disc promises to mark something of a departure from the band's previous guitar-heavy work (most recently, 2003's critically acclaimed Ode to Joy), with toy pianos, strings and horns creating a somewhat darker sound than usual. "You could say that Porcella isn't much of a garage record at all," explains mysteriously named band member Age of Danger. "Yeah, there's a couple of 'rockers'Ö but mostly, it's mellow and strange."
Not content to exist solely on CD, Porcella will also reportedly come in full double-album vinyl format. To celebrate this brand new sound and record(s), the Snakes will take indie rock pals and fellow Toronto scenesters Tangiers with them on a cross-Canada tour this fall after a couple of pre-tour warm-up shows.
