Snow Patrol Hangs Up Skis to Return to the Studio

Snow Patrol made a breakthrough with its third album, Final Straw, and now with expectations high, the crew will re-enter the studio to give it another go.

"We hope to be under way with the actual recording by the end of September and spend not much more than six weeks on [it]," lead singer Gary Lightbody writes in a message at the band's website,

While they haven't yet decided where to record, Lightbody explains that once Snow Patrol gets to work, it won't take long to complete the new album. "The plan is to be well prepared before we go in, so that we can be focused when we start," he says, contrasting the Patrol with bands that do a lot of writing behind the mike. "Jamming never worked for us!"

Lightbody is also determined to resist the temptation to rest on the group's recently earned laurels. "As we do have time, money and resources now it could be tempting to get complacent. We won't. We know how long it took to get into this position so we're not gonna take it for granted."

There's no word on when the as-yet-untitled effort can be expected to hit shelves, but Lightbody left readers with the assurance that "the new Sufjan Stevens record (Illinois) is pure genius." Anyone smell an influence?
