Cancer-Free, Melissa Etheridge to Release New LP in October

Published: 2005-08-05
Veteran rocker Melissa Etheridge announced the happy news that she is now cancer-free during her August 4th appearance on the entertainment television show Extra. The singer was diagnosed with breast cancer last year, which forced her to cancel a tour to undergo surgery.

Etheridge's illness apparently didn't slow her down one bit: she and her partner, Tammy Lynn Michaels, are thinking about having a baby, which would be Etheridge's third. The Kansas singer also has another CD project on the way: a greatest hits album called The Road Less Travelled.

The album will feature not only tracks from Etheridge's extensive back catalogue but also four new tunes. Due out in October, the disc will include covers of both Janis Joplin's "Piece of My Heart" and Tom Petty's "Refugee."

"Refugee" will also be the lead-off single from the album, with a video already completed; go to melissaetheridge.com to listen to the song.
