Canada's best power pop usually seems to come from the West Coast, but Saskatoon's Fjords are doing their best to change that notion. The three-piece has just put out its very first recording in the form of a self-titled EP, and they'll continue to tour in and around their home, bringing the rock with them.
Up next for the Fjords is a hometown gig at Palmer's tomorrow night, and from there they'll start heading westward. August will see the trio play shows at some of the most illustrious music venues Calgary and Edmonton have to offer, and they'll even make it all the way to Fernie, British Columbia.
Artists' collectives aren't just for Montreal and Toronto anymore, and the Fjords' record label is a shining example. The band released its three-song Fjords EP through Teargas Recording Tree, an organization comprising prairie musicians, sculptors, writers, and all those other artistic types.
The Fjords album is available for purchase at teargasrecordingtree.com; you can also simply listen to a few songs at NewMusicCanada.com.
