Farm Aid Cultivates Illinois Roots for 20th Anniversary

Published: 2005-07-13
Farm Aid is returning to where it all began this year by staging the concert in Illinois, the state where the first event in took place in 1985. This year's show is September 18th at the Tweeter Centre in Tinley Park and will feature such performers as the Dave Matthews Band, Neil Young, Willie Nelson, and John Mellencamp.

"From small towns to folks in the city, everybody knows family farm food is the best," Willie Nelson said. "It's good to be back in Illinois where it all started." The first Farm Aid was held in Champaign, Illinois, twenty years ago, and since then the organization has raised more than US$27 million.

"It inspires us to think about family farmers every day," said Nelson. "I'm looking forward to playing on the Farm Aid stage, playing music with my friends."
