Cowboy Junkies Have the '21st Century Blues'

Published: 2005-07-08
Everybody's favourite Canadian alt-rockers the Cowboy Junkies have put together a new album and will release it to stores nationwide on August 16th. Titled Early 21st Century Blues, the 11-track record is already available for purchase through the band's site (www.cowboyjunkies.com).

Made up of cover songs, Early 21st Century Blues is about just that: the blues of our decade - war, greed, and all things that come with it. The Junkies explain the album through their website: "We were all to bring along two or three songs, written by others, and the themes of the songs had to relate to war, violence, fear, greed, ignorance, loss÷.Our goal was to create our own small document of hope÷We let the tape run while we played and did our best to channel those early 21st century blues..."

Featuring songs like Richie Havens' "Handouts in the Rain" and U2's "One", Early 21st Century Blues is the Toronto band's second release of 2005. Open Road, a live CD/DVD package, was put out in February. Cowboy Junkies will play at North American festivals throughout the summer; go to their website for listings.

The track-listing of Early 21st Century Blues is:
