Rapper Lilí Kim Heading to the Big House

Published: 2005-07-07
Grammy-winning rapper Lil' Kim was sentenced to one year and one day in prison this past Wednesday for lying to a federal grand jury about a 2001 shooting outside a Manhattan radio station. Though the term was deemed stiff by some, Lil' Kim, whose real name is Kimberly Jones, escaped the maximum three years and seven month term sought by prosecutors.

The case stemmed from a shootout that occurred outside WQHT-FM when Lil' Kim's entourage ran into a rival rap outfit, Capone-N-Noreaga. Lil' Kim's entourage confronted the rival group over a song that contained an insult to Lil' Kim from fellow female rapper Foxy Brown. One man was hurt from the altercations.

Lil' Kim rose to fame in the mid 90's as a member of the late Notorious B.I.G's entourage as well as being his mistress. She was ordered to report to prison on Sept. 19.
