Peaking Duhks Fly South

Published: 2004-01-30
The Duhks flew south to sign a record deal with a major label. On January 16 the Winnipeg band the Peaking Duhks signed a four album deal with Sugar Hill Records. The North Carolina based label is home to such artists as Dolly Parton and Sonny Landbreth. Sugar Hill approached the Duhks after hearing them at a festival in Florida. Sugar Hill is going to re-release and promote the Duhks debut album "Your Daughters and Your Sons". A new album is also scheduled to be released around November.

The Peaking Duhks present a true world beat sound with an Afro-Cuban percussionist along with their mix of French Canadian, Appalachian, and Irish music.

The Peaking Duhks will be performing at the West End Cultural Centre in Winnipeg on Saturday January 31. Also appearing with the Duhks are The Mammals; a band from New York. The Mammals are a string band led by Tao Seeger – the grandson of legendary folk singer Pete Seeger.
