Eric Clapton Reveals 'Back Home' Details

Published: 2005-06-24
Still going strong, rock legend Eric Clapton will put out his first studio album of original material in five years at the end of the summer. Due to hit shelves on August 30th, Back Home houses 12 songs, of which Clapton co-wrote five. The other seven are covers of tunes by some very famous people.

Some of the songwriters found on Back Home are the late great George Harrison ("Love Comes to Everyone"), soul legend Stevie Wonder ("Going Left"), and country star Vince Gill ("One Day"), while John Mayer adds his skills on guitar. The first single lifted from the disc is a song called "Revolution."

In a statement, Clapton reveals why it took so long for Back Home to finally make it to shelves: "I wanted to make a studio album without quite knowing what it was going to be. We kind of resigned ourselves to the fact that it was going to take a long time, but when we got stuck or if it wasn't moving fast enough we'd stop and do a Robert Johnson song.

"That would clear the air and we'd go back and carry on for the new album. As a result, we ended up with a complete Robert Johnson album first, which was released last year as Me and Mr. Johnson." That'll definitely slow things down.

The track list of Back Home goes a little somethin' like this:

"So Tired"
"Say What You Will"
"Going Left"
"Love Don't Love Nobody"
"Revolution"
"Lost and Found"
"Heaven"
"Love Comes to Everyone"
"One Day"
"One Track Mind"
"Run Home to Me"
"Back Home"
