Brian 'Head' Welch's Eyes Opened to Disadvantaged Children

Published: 2005-06-24
Fans of hard rock band Korn were upset upon learning that member Brian "Head" Welch had departed from the band, but considering what the guitarist has done with his time since, it's not all bad. Leaving Korn to follow God and concentrate on his Christian mission, Welch has put all his efforts into doing good for his fellow human beings.

Currently working on a solo album and a documentary on his life, Welch has also found time to start an organization that helps kids around the world get off the streets and into a better life. He and his manager Steve Delaportas, who has already done extensive work in India, have joined forces to create the "Head Home" project.

"Head Home" aims to assist children facing a range of disadvantages. The project will help integrate children from leper communities back into society, as well as reaching out to impoverished children and those whose parents have sold them into brothels. Welch and Delaportas will be heading to the Indian cities of Mumbai, Kolkata, Baleshwar, and Kurseong, with the documentary crew in tow.

"Throughout all of my life I have always had a heart for people that are hurting, especially those that have no one to help them," says Welch of the project. "My eyes have been opened to children on the street, and I feel like for me that is who I want and need to help!"
