Richard Hell Compiles His Life's Work

Having helped secure both punk and legendary Manhattan club CBGBs places in the history books, Richard Hell is one of those undeniably influential characters. Now the uninitiated will be able to get better acquainted with the prolific rocker with the help of a career retrospective out on August 2nd.

Put out byˇyou guessed, itˇRhino Records, Spurts: The Richard Hell Story includes 21 remastered tracks originally recorded between 1973 and 2004. Featuring some of Hell's classics (e.g. "Blank Generation" with the Voidoids) to previously unreleased material ("She'll Be Coming (For Dennis Cooper)"), the compilation covers every side of his musical career.

To those familiar with the personnel of Hell's former bands, Spurts shows his influence. He worked with artists such as Television's Tom Verlaine in the Neon Boys, New York Doll's Johnny Thunders in the Heartbreakers, and Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore in Dim Stars. The liner notes include an interview with Hell, and legendary rock critic Lester Bang's review of Blank Generation.
