Rhino Boxes Up Ramones, Dead, Yes

Published: 2005-06-21
Those folks at Rhino Records know where it's at, consistently putting together some of the best compilations in the known universe. This summer three of the world's most influential bands will get boxed up for completists: the Ramones, the Grateful Dead, and Yes.

First up on July 12th is a two-disc concert set from the Grateful Dead, taken from 1989 when Jerry Garcia and co. were making a strong comeback. Truckin' up to Buffalo, July 4, 1989 was captured before the release of the band's final studio album, Built to Last.

The Ramones box set, created at the request of Johnny Ramone, is called Weird Tales of the Ramones and is due to hit on August 16th. Featuring three CDs, one DVD, and a comic book, Weird Tales spans the Ramones career, compiling 85 tracks from the band's 16 albums as well as 6 music videos.

Last but not least, fans of prog-rock act Yes will be able to get their hands on previously unreleased live material. Spanning three discs, The Word is Live features 26 live performances covering the 1970 to 1988 portion of the band's career. Accompanying the set is the obligatory booklet with an essay (by Greg Lake of Emerson, Lake & Palmer) and rare photos.

Full track lists of Truckin' up to Buffalo, July 4, 1989, Weird Tales of the Ramones, and The Word is Live should eventually all become available at Rhino.com.
