Barrie Hosting Live 8 Show over Toronto

Live 8 organizer Bob Geldof had mentioned that Toronto would host a Live 8 concert on July 2nd amid speculation that the Rolling Stones will top the bill. The geriatric rockers will be in Toronto rehearsing for their upcoming tour, which is in support of their as-yet-untitled new album.

Today it was announced that the Live 8 show rumoured for Toronto will actually take place in Barrie, Ontario. The Rolling Stones have a scheduling conflict and won't be able to perform at the Live 8 show in Barrie; no artists have yet been confirmed for the Barrie concert.

Organizers have not announced the venue but say it must be large enough to accommodate 150,000 people. Live 8 concerts have already been confirmed in London, Philadelphia, Paris, Berlin, Rome, and at the Eden Project in Cornwall, England, on July 2nd and in Scotland on July 6th.

Geldof also confirmed that Tokyo and Johannesburg would host Live 8 concerts. The concerts were set up to increase awareness of global poverty and to get G8 leaders, meeting in Edinburgh from July 6th to 8th, to increase aid to, forgive the debts of, and establish fair trade with the poorer nations of the world.
