The Darkness Chooses New Bassist

Published: 2005-06-16
Just weeks after giving original bassist Frankie Poullain the axe, nouveau hair-metal band the Darkness has decided on a replacement. Richie Edwards, once merely a guitar tech for the band, can now count himself as the newest member of the British four-piece.

Picking a new bass player wasn't a light decision for Darkness members, who held weeks of auditions to find the right man for the job. In a statement, lead man Justin Hawkins explained the band's decision: "Richie's a good laugh and he's really good at playing bass, and at this stage that's all that matters."

Edwards had his own words for the moment: "Music has been my life forever, and the only thing I've ever wanted to do is be in a band. After years spent trying to 'make it,' in your late twenties you assume it's not going to happen and to be thrown this lifeline, to finally be given this opportunity."
