Tragically Hip Bassist Shows Off New Supergroup

Published: 2005-06-13
Taking his overflow from the Tragically Hip in a new direction, guitarist Rob Baker got a few of his famous friends together to create a side-project that goes by the name Stripper's Union Local 518. A veritable who's who of the veteran Canadian music scene, the members of the Stripper's Union are taking their show on the road and releasing a record while they're at it.

Due to hit shelves tomorrow, Stripper's Union Local 518 features 13 tracks written by the super-duo of Baker and Craig Northey from Vancouver band Odds. Fleshing out the quartet are Pat Stewart (Odds, Matthew Good Band), Doug Elliott (Odds, Colin James), and Simon Kendall (Doug and the Slugs, Colin James).

As for the tour, Stripper's Union currently has four gigs lined up, all in southern Ontario. Toronto-based singer-songwriter Matthew Barber will be opening the shows in anticipation of his second full-length album Sweet Nothing.
