AmsterJam Mash-Up Concert a Go

Published: 2005-06-02
A host of musicians will descend on Randall's Island in New York City August 20th for the inaugural AmsterJam. Organizers are advertising the concert, which will feature the Red Hot Chili Peppers performing with Snoop Dogg, as the biggest live mash-up ever held. Other acts on the bill include Mos Def, 311, Garbage, Fat Joe, and two major Latin performers to be announced later.

The event will also include an Amsterdam-themed village with a second stage, club lounges, and interactive displays. Parliament/Funkadelic legend Bootsy Collins will be curator of the concert.

Confined to the underground until recently, mash-ups have started to gain mainstream recognition since Linkin Park and Jay-Z joined forces on a hit record and a major concert in 2004.
