Is it too early to look back at the '90s? Rhino Records certainly doesn't think so, and so they're packaging all the music that "made it" the '90s into one nifty box set. Featuring a whopping 130 songs, Whatever: The '90s Pop Culture Box covers everything from Sir Mix-a-Lot's "Baby Got Back" to Moby's "Natural Blues."
No box set is complete without a hefty helping of liner notes to accompany it, and Whatever is no exception. There will be an 84-page booklet included with the set, with track-by-track notes, photos, and essays. To authenticate the whole '90s feel, Rhino will also attach a bag of coffee beans.
The third child in the Pop Culture Box family (the '70s and '80s came before it), Whatever is due to hit stores on July 26th.
Some other artists to be featured in the compilation include the likes of MC Hammer, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Soul Asylum, Busta Rhymes, Jewel, Sarah McLachlan, Aaliyah, En Vogue, Luscious Jackson, Dinosaur Jr., Babes in Toyland, and the Flaming Lips.
Inarguably the lords of the box set, Rhino Records has also released No Thanks! The '70s Punk Rebellion and Left of the Dial: Dispatches From the '80s Underground, documenting the underground music scenes. No word on when the outcasts of the '90sóy'know, the Bikini Kills, the Guided By Voices, the Manic Street Preachersówill see their own box set.
