Vancouver's Mark Berube Working on New album

Published: 2005-05-26
Singer-songwriter Mark Berube is currently working on the follow-up to his 2004 album Sketches from the Sidewalk. I contacted Berube recently to discuss the album and tour plans.

"Things have been busy. I just got back from touring across Canada in April," said Berube. "I've got most of the material for the next album. We've got a studio day booked in two weeks, but need more money for the whole album, so piece by piece it is coming."

Critics have likened Berube's style to those of such notable musicians as Ron Sexsmith, Tom Waits, Rufus Wainwright, and Bob Dylan. The Canmore Leader newspaper has hailed Berube as "one of Canada's most unique and talented songwriters," while the Vancouver Province has called him "a total original in the tradition of exceptional Canadian singer-songwriters."

Berube also moonlights as a spoken word artist with the Fugitives, with whom he's heading out to tour Europe at the end of June, likely returning to Ontario in October. Before the European trip, though, the Fugitives will tour British Columbia, stopping in Victoria on May 28, Cowichan Bay on May 29th, and Vancouver on June 5th.
