U2 May Take Second Look at 'Pop'

Published: 2005-05-26
Eight years after the universally panned album Pop, U2 may go back into the studio to record a brand new version. Disappointed with the original result, U2 lead singer Bono has admitted touring commitments led to a rushed release which prevented the band from finishing the album.

"The bones of a great album are there," the singer explained in a recent interview with the Chicago Tribune. It didn't communicate the way it was intended to. It became a niche record. That's not what it was intended to be."

Calling it "the worst decision U2 ever made," Bono revealed that the band had let the band's manager take control of the tour schedule, which ended up forcing the group to stop work on the record before they were ready.

U2 will kick off the European leg of its Vertigo tour next month. The tour will stop in Toronto this September.
