U2 and REM to Tour Together?

Published: 2005-05-24
In an interview with British music site NME.com, REM singer Michael Stipe discussed the possibility of one of the greatest double bills in rock history. "I'm going to stay in Europe for a spell [after the REM tour] and probably jump on the U2 tour and the Patti Smith tour," Stipe mused, "just to allow my adrenalin to creep down rather than crash from our tour."

U2 and REM are no strangers, with each band frequently incorporating the other's music into its own live sets. Bono was also a character witness at REM guitarist Peter Buck's trial a few years ago when Buck was accused of drunken behaviour on an international flight.

U2 is on tour in the U.S. supporting its 2004 album, How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb. REM is touring Europe supporting its 2004 effort, Around the Sun.
