Kylie Minogue Thanks Fans for Support

Australian popstar Kylie Minogue, whose breast cancer diagnosis became public this week, is thanking all of her fans for their support through this time.

"I want to reassure you that I am being well taken care of," Minogue said in a statement. "I have a lot of family and friends around me. I would also like to extend my best wishes to all of the other women around Australia and around the world who are dealing with the same illness."

Minogue is due to undergo surgery this week by one of "Australia's leading surgeons," according to a press statement. Tests show the cancer is confined to the breast. Minogue's family and friends are flying in to support the singer as she undergoes treatment in Melbourne.

Minogue's cancer has already raised awareness of the disease around the world. The singer is asking her fans not to send gifts and cards, but rather to donate to the Cancer Council Australia (cancer.org.au) in her name.

People wishing to help can also donate to Olivia Newton-John's charity, the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Centre Appeal, at www.oliviaappeal.com. A breast cancer survivor herself, Newton-John has expressed hopes that the press will leave Minogue alone while she battles breast cancer.
