CBGB to Host Benefit Festival

Published: 2005-05-19
Legendary New York City punk rock club CBGB is hosting a 30-date festival in the hope of saving the club from closing. The club, owned by long-time club manager Hilly Kristal, has been in financial trouble for a while, with most of its income coming from t-shirt sales and memorabilia.

Kristal has announced that he is inviting Patti Smith, David Byrne, and others who played the club before they hit it big to the festival. Artists that have played CBGB include the Ramones, Talking Heads, Blondie, Television, the Police, Green Day, and many more.

Kristal also mentioned that some artists on the bill, in particular country singer Alan Jackson, would come from unusual genres for CBGB.
