Gordon Lightfoot Returns to Toronto

Published: 2005-05-19
Sixty-six-year-old Canadian legend Gordon Lightfoot returned to Toronto's Massey Hall yesterday. After an extended break resulting from a life threatening illness, Lightfoot has revived his springtime tradition of playing at the historic venue.

Two-and-a-half years ago Lightfoot and his band were warming up to play a benefit gig in Orillia, Ontario, when Lightfoot suffered an abdominal hemorrhage. Lightfoot was airlifted to Hamilton where surgeons worked on him to save his life. He lay in a coma for over six weeks.

Lightfoot used the experience to his advantage, penning most of the songs that would end up on his 2004 album Harmony. The Massey Hall shows are part of a 33-date tour that began in April in California and continues throughout the U.S. The tour ends in December with shows in various communities across Ontario.
