Singer-songwriter Ben Gunning Finding His Way

Published: 2005-05-18
Former Local Rabbits singer and guitarist Ben Gunning released his solo debut Beigy Blur this past March to strong reviews but is still feeling the hardship of being an up and coming artist. Gunning's album, an amalgam of styles ranging from pop to funk to rock to soul, exemplifies his strong talent, but like many smaller artists, he's struggling to make a name for himself.

"As an enjoyer of all genres of music I look for at least some degree of innovation or uniqueness, a spark if you will, in everything I hear," Gunning says on his website. "As a maker of music I am trying to hold myself up to the same standard with regard to my musicianship, composition, and lyrics."

Gunning will be at the Rivoli in Toronto on May 28th opening for Paso Mino. In June he plays the Zunior showcase at NXNE in Toronto. As for a large tour, Gunning told Soul Shine, "I have no plans for any touring outside of Ontario or Quebec yet, unfortunately. It is simply too economically burdening at this point. I'm just trying to make this album reach a certain level of cult appreciation and then [I'll] see if my options expand from there."
