The Stones Lend Support to Brian Jones Film

Published: 2005-05-17
The Rolling Stones have given their blessing to a new film based on the life of the late guitarist Brian Jones. Jones was a founding member of the Rolling Stones in the early sixties, leaving the band in 1969. Later that year Jones was found dead in his swimming pool.

The film, Stoned, offers new insights and theories on the mysterious death of the guitarist. Most of the information comes from three books about Jones's death, including one by his girlfriend, Anna Wohlin. Director Stephen Woolley has been researching for the film the past ten years. At the film's launch at the Cannes Film Festival, Woolley announced that he had found a fourth person who was at the star's home on the night he died and had new evidence.

The movie stars Leo Gregory as Jones and Paddy Considine as suspect Frank Thorogood. Thorogood was Jones's builder and died in 1993. The film is due out in theatres next year.
