The Vines Plan to Record Third Album

Published: 2005-05-17
Vines fans took a collective breath when they learned lead singer Craig Nicholls had Asperger's Syndrome (a mild form of autism). Everyone can now exhale, however, as word has come from drummer Hamish Rosser that the band will, in fact, make a third album. The effort is still in pre-production, which means the Vines have yet to enter the recording studio, but Rosser gave Vines fansite www.dreamintheinsane.com a good indication of what it will sound like.

According to the interview, Rosser revealed that the new record will have a heavier sound than their last effort, 2004's Winning Days. Rosser also revealed that he and guitarist Ryan Griffiths write songs, but it's likely only Craig Nicholls's work will show up on the new album (as on the previous two efforts).

Rosser went on to say the band would probably get a new producer for the upcoming effort: "The next album will almost definitely be made in Australia, which might rule out Rob Schnapf [as producer] because he has a wife and two young kids that he won't want to be separated from for very long and we probably can't afford to fly them out here and put them up."

It's unknown exactly when the new Vines album might see the light of day, but fans can definitely rule out any type of world tour for the band. "They will never, ever tour like they did before," Vines manager Andy Kelly stated when Nicholls's Asperger's Syndrome was diagnosed "and playing shows is probably the last thing that will be worked out, really."
