The Second Coming of Live Aid

Published: 2005-05-16
Rumours are growing over the possibility of another Live Aid concert, to be held in London's Hyde Park this summer. The show will be entitled Live 8, since it will coincide with the G8 summit in July. Artists rumoured to be playing the event include Oasis, U2, Paul McCartney, Madonna, and Coldplay.

It's been 20 years since the original Live Aid concert in London and Philadelphia. The concerts raised funds and awareness for famine relief in Ethiopia and other poorer nations in Africa. Memorable performances from the first Live Aid included U2, Queen, the reunions of both Led Zepplin and Black Sabbath, and Phil Collins's dual performances in both the London and Philadelphia concerts on the same day.

Original Live Aid organizer Bob Geldof is attached to the new project. Plans are underway to stage a show simultaneously in the U.S. headlined by rapper Eminem. The shows will be free.
