Pete Yorn Gets A Little Help From His Friends

Published: 2005-05-13
Currently working away on his third release for Columbia Records, Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Pete Yorn has enlisted the help of more than a few of his big name friends. All three Dixie Chicks have got in on the action, with lead singer Natalie Maines providing back-up vocals and Emily Robinson and Martie Maguire contributing their skills on banjo and fiddle.

In case it wasn't enough to have one of the most successful country acts of all time helping out on his record, Yorn also pulled in Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters (and, oh yes, Nirvana) fame to play drums. Legendary session musician Leon Russell will tickle the ivories on the as-yet-untitled project, while the Wallflowers' Rami Jaffee bangs on the Hammond organ.

Not only hiring big guns to play music, Yorn has also pulled in producers with impressive resumes. Michael Beinhorn, the main knob-twiddler, has worked on such albums as Hole's Celebrity Skin, Soundgarden's Superunknown, and an obscene number of Red Hot Chilli Peppers discs. Don Fleming, number two behind the glass, has signed his name to Sonic Youth, Teenage Fanclub, and Alice Cooper records.

While acknowledging double albums seem the way to go these days (Ryan Adams, Foo Fighters, and Bright Eyes are all doing them), Yorn explains at that he plans to cut his 24 recorded tracks down to one album's worth of material. All this and they're filming the entire ordeal as well.
