Dr. Dre's Attacker to Stand Trial

Published: 2005-05-10
The man who allegedly attacked producer and rapper Dr. Dre at last year's Vibe Awards will stand trial. A California judge has decided that enough evidence has been collected to try Jimmy James Johnson for assault.

Johnson is believed to have punched Dr. Dre after Dre refused to sign an autograph. The fight got out of hand when bodyguards and fellow rappers got involved, including Young Buck of G-Unit, who stabbed Johnson. Johnson later suffered a collapsed lung. Buck, whose real name is David Darnell Brown, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and is currently out on bail awaiting trial.

In January of this year, Johnson pleaded not guilty at his arraignment. An investigation continues to discover the identities of two other people holding knives in video footage of the Vibe Awards.
