EMI Signs Deal for Cat Stevens Catalogue

Published: 2005-05-06
EMI has licensed the complete song catalogue of singer Cat Stevens who now goes by the name Yusuf Islam. The catalogue could generate up to two million dollars yearly industry insiders estimate.

The catalogue consists of 200 songs that were recorded between 1966-1978. The hits "Morning Has Broken", "Wild World", "Moon Shadow", "Tea for the Tillerman", and "Teaser and the Firecat", will all be included. Islam has sold over 50 million albums and remains popular in the United States and Europe.

Islam made news recently when he was denied entry into the U.S. for security reasons. Security forces deemed him a risk and forced the plane he was on to re-route to London, England.

After a life changing event where he almost drowned, Islam practically retired from the music business in the late 1970's to focus more on his family and faith. He is currently working on a new musical.
