Audioslave Get Permission To Perform In Cuba

Published: 2005-05-05
The rift between the United States and Cuba has been long running, and hard rock supergroup, Audioslave, are putting differences aside to bring Cuban youth the magic of rock 'n' roll. Fronted by Chris Cornell, the quartet is set to take the stage in Havana this Friday (May 6th), becoming the first US rock band to perform an outdoor concert in Cuba.

It's not such an easy feat for an American band to play in the communist run country, so Audioslave had to get approval from both the US Treasury Department and the Instituto Cubano de la Musica. Not just performing songs from their upcoming sophomore effort Out of Exile, the band has been in Havana since yesterday (May 4th) and will stay until May 7th, getting to know their Cuban audience.

Obviously excited to be playing Cuba after all the effort to secure the gig, a statement released by Audioslave reads: ""Kids are the same all over the world, and we are extremely proud and excited to bring rock 'n' roll to the youth of Cuba. It's all about the music, and free expression of music crosses all barriers. This is a rare opportunity, and we are grateful and honoured to have the support of both countries."
