New Pornographers Reveal All The Goods On New LP

Published: 2005-05-02
After months holed up in a Vancouver recording studio, Canada's favourite West Coast collective has wrapped work on their third full-length album. Dubbed Twin Cinema, the follow-up to 2003's Electric Version will make its debut on the presumably sunny day of August 23rd via Mint Records in Canada (Matador in the US).

All of the seven-plus Pornographer members contribute to Twin Cinema, with Carl Newman, Neko Case, and Dan Bejar taking on lead singing duties. Guest vocalists include Chicago singer/songwriter Nora O'Connor and Newman's "long-lost teenage niece" Kathryn Calder. It must be nice having AC Newman as a relative, because Calder gets to tour with the band, tinkling keys along the way.

The 14 tracks of Twin Cinema look something like this:

"Twin Cinema"
"The Bones Of An Idol"
"Use It"
"The Bleeding Heart Show"
"Jackie Dressed In Cobras"
"The Jessica Numbers"
"These Are The Fables"
"Sing Me Spanish Techno"
"Falling Through Your Clothes"
"Broken Beads"
"Three Or Four"
"Star Bodies"
"Streets Of Fire"
"Stacked Crooked"

So far The New Pornographers have confirmed just four performances for June, with notta single one of them taking place in Canada. However, those who happen to live in the north-eastern United States will want to check the band's site for a listing of the gigs.

Those who can't wait until August 23rd for Twin Cinema (like a certain news writer) can go to the band's website at to download the title-track from the album, which has been described as some of the band's best work. Once there, it's also possible to view the super bright cover art for the record, so we all know what to look for once August rolls around.
