Meat Puppets Guitarist Goes Solo

Published: 2005-04-29
Former Meat Puppets guitarist, singer, and head songwriter is going at it alone for the first time. After 20 plus years in the Meat Puppets and stints in underground bands Eyes Adrift and Volcano, Kirkwood is finishing up his debut solo album entitled Snow.

Kirkwood's debut is set for release in the fall and is said to be more intimate and less rock-orientated than the Meat Puppets. The Meat Puppets are known mostly for their performance on Nirvana's MTV Unplugged show back in 1993. The exposure led to some mainstream success for the single "Backwater" from 1994's Too High to Die.

The Meat Puppets original line-up disbanded in 1996 but Kirkwood is not ruling out a reunion even though it is unlikely in the near future. Kirkwood's brother and former Meat Puppets bassist is currently in prison for assaulting a security guard last year.

Kirkwood is working with Grammy winning producer Pete Anderson on the album and is releasing it under Anderson's label, Little dog Records. Anderson worked with Kirkwood previously producing the Meat Puppets 1991 album Forbidden Places.
