Columbus to Release Debut CD

Published: 2005-04-28
Edmonton based band, Columbus, is set to release their debut self-titled EP in early June on independent label Pop Echo Records. The band is holding a couple of CD release parties in Edmonton and Calgary to celebrate the occasion. According to the band's label, Columbus is planning to support the French Kicks on a western Canadian tour this summer.

Originally a solo project for founder Chris Webster, Columbus evolved into a five-piece pop rock outfit in 2004. The band, which is reminiscent of Blur, is made up of Chris Webster (vocals, guitars), Jesse Sherburne (drums, percussion), Rich Dimitriou (guitars, vocals), Thea Varvis (keyboards, piano), and Tony Baker (bass).

Previously known for the track "Turncoats" that was featured on a Humbleebee Recordings compilation album, Columbus has played with Montreal's The Diskettes, Sweden's The State of Samuel, and Canadian pop rock legends Sloan. Columbus's next gig is April 29th at the U of C Hall Party in Calgary.
