Rod Stewart Looks After Inspirational Friend

Published: 2005-04-27
Definitely what you'd call a loyal friend, veteran British singer, Rod Stewart, is financing medical treatment for one of his oldest friends. Receiving treatment at a Canadian hospital for a respiratory problem, John Baldry, 64, is at the receiving end of Stewart's generosity. Not only is Baldry a good friend of Stewart's, but he also helped the gravely-voiced-rocker-turned-crooner launch his very long and successful career.

Baldry discovered Stewart singing on a London train station platform, and he eventually offered Stewart a place in his band, The Hoochie Coochie Men. It's been 30 years since Stewart and Baldry struck up their enduring friendship, and here's hoping they get many years more to add.

Not only a pal to Rod Stewart, Baldry has also made an impact in the lives of many other big names in rock. Baldry, who is a singer, has performed with the likes of The Beatles, Mick Jagger, and Jimmy Page. If that doesn't draw up enough rock cred, guitarist Eric Clapton has cited Baldry as an inspiration to his career.
