Gene Simmons Starts a 'Rock School'

Published: 2005-04-20
Ubiquitous Kiss-man Gene Simmons will lend his mug to another outlet this year: television. And true to form, he'll do it bigger and grander than anyone has done it before. Fans have already seen Simmons's face in cartoon form in the Teletoon series My Dad the Rock Star, and now they'll be able to see it with a touch of reality.

VH1 has signed on for an American version of Simmons' new series, Rock School, which was originally filmed for British audiences. The idea is to turn the movie School of Rock into a six-episode reality series. For those who haven't seen the movie, this means Simmons will be taking on the role of teacher, informing preteens how to make it in the wide world of rock.

Not only instructing the instrumental side of things, Simmons also coaches the English boarding school students in the important art of applying monster makeup. Due to air this summer, the American version of Rock School will see the addition of extra footage of Kiss from past MTV specials, and more music from the fearsome four.

If you think Gene Simmons teaching a roomful of children is too far-fetched even for reality television, remember that Simmons was a grade six teacher until Kiss took off.

A soundtrack for Rock School, featuring the students performing with the likes of Billy Idol and Alice Cooper, will be available May 31st.

Rock School with Gene Simmons is a blatant rip off of the documentary Rock School premiering next month courtesy of Newmarket Films. The soundtrack, featuring Billy Idol, Greg Rollie, Marky Ramone, Alice Cooper, Jon Anderson, Ann Wilson...and the Paul Green School of Rock (with my son Eric on drums and daughter Julie on bass), is connected to the movie, not the idiotic Gene Simmons series. Gene Simmons as a music teacher and role model? Pass the puke bucket, please.

Go see the documentary, boycott the T.V. series, and buy the soundtrack, which again, is connected to the movie, not the TV show.

Wait and see the series - you'll find the children at the school tell Gene just what they think of him!

No thank you. I wouldn't watch that series in a million years. They are blatant plagiarists and really, this series is about making Viacom and Simmons richer - it has nothing to do with turning kids into viable musicians.

Why don't YOU go see the real documentary and listen to the real soundtrack to see what Rock School is really about.
