'Johnny B. Goode' Dies at 80

Published: 2005-04-14
Chuck Berry's classic tune "Johnny B. Goode" was inspired by a real legend in rock 'n' roll, Johnnie Johnson, who worked closely with Berry for two decades beginning in 1952. Johnson's lasting success is noted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for his boogie, blues, and rock 'n' roll piano playing.

The musician gave his last performance just three weeks ago as headliner for a blues show in St. Louis, and had notably been gaining several younger rock 'n' roll fans recently. Johnson had allegedly suffering from pneumonia, but he is claimed to have died of natural causes. Let Johnson's family be in our prayers -Johnnie Johnson, dead at 80.
