Sex Pistols Mockumentary on DVD This May

Published: 2005-04-14
Punk is not dead, at least not on film. On May 17th a film called "The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle" will be re-released on DVD, with none other than The Sex Pistols at the middle of it all. The rock/mock/documentary follows the "career" of the seminal punk rockers in a fictional, but reportedly highly entertaining story, with the inimitable Johnny Rotten at the helm.

Directed by Julien Temple, the plot of "The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle" has The Sex Pistols matched with an evil-minded band manager, who uses the musical revolutionaries and all their controversy to make big bucks (the old greed scheme, y'see). Of course, in doing this, manger Malcolm McLaren also messes with the band and all their adoring and angry fans.

Odds are that the majority of Sex Pistols fans will probably be most interested in the live performances from the band's career included on the flick, which were taken from the 1980 release to UK audiences when the documentary was created in all its shining glory. All of The Sex Pistols' most classic songs are included in the film, including the title track, "Anarchy in the UK", and of course, "God Save The Queen".
