The White Stripes Name Fifth Album

Published: 2005-04-12
Speedy little demons that they are, Detroit garage-rock duo The White Stripes have already recorded, named, and chosen a single from an album in less time than it seems to take most bands to lay down one track. Jack and Meg White have named the follow-up to 2003's hugely successful "Elephant" with the slightly scary, yet intriguing, title of "Get Behind Me Satan".

Due to be in the hands of drooling fans in Britain on June 6th, and North American hounds the following day, "Get Behind Me Satan" is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated release of the summer. The first single to be lifted from the record is a song called "Blue Orchid", which will hit one week earlier.

With no plans for a world tour as of yet, The White Stripes told the LA Times that they would be playing "events" instead of concerts to promote the upcoming album. These "events" include England's Glastonbury Festival and the Music Midtown Festival in Georgia in June, and three performances in Mexico the previous month.

Not sure if this quote actually means anything in terms of tour plans, but Jack White also said: "First we're going to play where we are not well known. Then if we have time, we will play New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago. Frankly, we are waiting for technology to advance in the United States before we attempt to perform this record live there."

Perhaps Canada has the proper technology then. Yes?
