Joel Geleynse Nominated For Two Shai Awards

Published: 2005-04-04
Ontario-based, Joel Geleynse, has been involved in the music scene for a very short time (he was a professional figure skater before this) and already he's been recognized for his work. He was nominated for two Shai Awards (the Canadian Gospel Music Awards) for his debut album "The Rebellion of Camouflage".

Released in December 2004, the album has gained Geleynse nods for both Folk Album of the Year and Rock/Alternative Album of the Year. He'll be going up against the likes of Carolyn Arends and Rob Berg for the Folk nomination, and stereotrap and Hawk Nelson in the Rock category.

The winners of the Shai Awards are voted upon by the public, so go to between April 5th and May 10th to choose your favourite in 23 categories, including Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, and Urban/Soul Album of the Year. The Awards are being held at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga on May 14th, and for the first time, they will be broadcast across the country on CBC.

For more on Joel Geleynse, go to his official site at; once there, it's possible to listen to five tracks from "The Rebellion of Camouflage". Soul Shine also sat down with Geleynse and picked his brain; head over to the "Features" section of the web site to read the interview with the rocker.
