Chad VanGaalen Finds a Home at Sub Pop

Published: 2005-03-29
It's official, Canadian singer/songwriter Chad VanGaalen has found himself a bright new record deal, and it just happens to be Seattle's legendary Sub Pop Records. The company plans to re-release VanGaalen's first proper album "Infiniheart", which is compiled from years of the artist's bedroom recordings. They'll cut off a few tracks from "Infiniheart" (it runs 80-minutes at the moment), with the spruced up 60-minute version out later this year.

Currently on limited release, "Infiniheart" is available through Flemish Eye Records, which is based out of VanGaalen's hometown of Calgary. Widespread buzz has been building up around VanGaalen for the past few months, and it looks like he won't be Canada's best kept secret for much longer - go to www.flemisheye.com for ordering information on the original "Infiniheart" (that way you can say you had it first).

The official message from Sub Pop reads: "Forgive me if my comments sound hyperbolic, but Canadian bedroom recording artist Chad VanGaalen is one of the most mind-blowingly genius songwriters, epic composers, and genuine performers I've seen in the last decade, and we here at Sub Pop are beside ourselves over having the opportunity to work with him.

"Chad is a detail-oriented, incredibly gifted illustrator and craftsman as well--he elaborately pencilled the intricate original "Infiniheart" cover, and often whittles his own instruments out of wood (including a from-scratch violin, harp, and clarinet, and the retooling of a vintage piano, which he completely re-carved.)"
