Glastonbury Drops the Beats, Not the Music

Published: 2005-03-29
One of the largest outdoor music festivals on the planet has been asked to "keep it down". The wacky and wild UK-based festival has introduced their own "silent disco." Overnight, the 15 foot dance tent speakers will be turned off, letting local residents who are not into Minogue or Kasabian rest peacefully. However, those at the festival who want to party all night can pick up a pair of headphones and listen to the tunes in the tent until the wee hours of the morning.

The festival runs from June 24-26 this year, and tickets go on sale in less then a week. Those rumoured to be performing include the White Stripes, Kasabian, Snow Patrol, and Kylie Minogue.

Some rules are being enforced if you plan to attend: no tickets bought on eBay will be valid, day tickets are not available unless you're a local resident wanting to come on Sunday, you must purchase tickets with debit cards only, and one person can buy only 2 tickets each. Tickets go on sale 9am this Sunday on and if you're in Europe try calling 0870 1652005.

Believe it or not, this "silent disco" concept was introduced by a pair of Dutch DJs (aka The Silent Disco DJs) going by the names "DJ OD" and "NO DJ" who play two sets simultaneously allowing the audience to switch between them at any time - talk about more bang for your buck.

Glastonbury has basicly got too big now & to cope with it all eavis has had to bring more & more pepole & companies wich have just ripped glasto of what it used to be & what it was all about, its a shame really & unfortunately a sign of our times, i mean whats a silent party all about and although kylie is a big start she isnt glasonbury whats next s club 7? i just hope eavis will go away next year & realise what a sham its become & return in 2007 with a proper festival not a silent pop concert with a lights out time.
