VH1 Special Focuses on Religion and Pop Culture

Constantly pumping out in-depth and sometimes scandalous looks into the world of music, American music channel, VH1, will try a new avenue in their programming this month. Known for programs like "The Fabulous Life Of÷" and "Behind The Music", on Saturday, March 26th VH1 will air a news special called "Religion: A Pop Culture Special". It comes as part of the award-winning VH1 series which also explored AIDS and politics for the MTV generation.

The "Religion" episode takes a look at how after the 9/11 tragedy, the secular and religious worlds seemed to have collided. Everything from Kanye West's "Jesus Walks" to Mel Gibson's epic film "The Passion of the Christ" is looked at in the 30-minute documentary. Even the Kabbalah-craze and "Jesus Is My Homeboy" t-shirts don't escape VH1's lens.

Quite a few big names contribute interviews included in "Religion: A Pop Culture Special", including Kanye West, Run-DMC's Reverend Run, and Stephen Baldwin, among others. Grammy-nominated Christian rock band, Skillet, is also featured in the program; the Tennessee quartet was interviewed at The Creation Festival in the summer of '04.

For those Canadians that don't subscribe to VH1, there's always a chance the special will pop up on Canadian programming at a future date.

Does anyone happen to have a copy of the VH1 program "Religion: A Pop Culture Special"? We were at the Creation Festival last year and my son was included in some of the filming. We never knew when the program would air or what it was called. A friend of his mentioned that she saw him on the program a few weeks ago. Thanks!
