Martha Wainwright's Debut Due In April

Published: 2005-03-15
A member of what is undeniably one of the best musical families Canada can brag about, singer/songwriter Martha Wainwright is set to prove herself with the release of her debut full-length on April 12th. The self-titled record will be released through MapleMusic Recordings here in Canada, and through the Drowned In Sound label in the UK a week earlier.

Produced by Wainwright and Brad Albetta (Jennifer Marks, Sad Little Stars) in New York over the last year and a half, the eponymous effort is set to feature 13 songs, including "The Maker", "BMFA", and "Factory". The first single lifted from the album is to be a track called "When The Day Is Short".

Although she has yet to release a full-length album, Wainwright has already won tons of praise for her 2004 debut EP "Blood Mother F*&*&*& Ass&*%*" (including kind words from one Miss Norah Jones). She also earned her chops singing backup for her big brother Rufus (he returns the favour on "The Maker"), and recently appeared in the Oscar-winning film "The Aviator" as a lounge singer.

Wainwright has plans to tour Britain, which has become her adopted home, through the spring but she doesn't have any Canadian stops confirmed (she will hit SXSW, however). There's a good chance she'll be doing at least a short tour of the country in support of her upcoming release, so keep those eyes peeled.

To download three songs from Wainwright's 5-track "BMFA" EP (really, the title belies the beauty of her songs), including the title-track and "I Will Internalize", go to her official web site at:
