Minnie Driverís First Canadian Gig In April

Published: 2005-03-11
Much to-do has been made over the release of Minnie Driver's first studio album, but the well-known actress has yet to make an appearance in Canada as a singer. Driver is about to amend that, as she is going to make her Canadian singing debut on April 24th in Toronto. She's going to be in the country to perform at The Canadian Entertainment Network Awards (CENA), which as it happens, celebrate the home entertainment and DVD industry in the country.

While many people are wary of actors who make the leap into singing (as they should be), with Driver the situation is a bit different. Although she is best known as an actress in films like "Good Will Hunting", "Grosse Point Blank", and "Phantom of the Opera", the British-born Driver actually signed a development deal with Island Records before she even began life as a thespian.

Her debut album "Everything I've Got In My Pocket" was released in October of last year, and features 10 tracks written by Driver including the title-track, which was the album's lead off single. She also provided vocals for the "Phantom of the Opera" song "Learn To Be Lonely", which was nominated for Best Original Song at this year's Academy Awards (the track was performed by Beyonce at the ceremonies).
