American quartet The Donnas will soon show legions of AC fans what punk rock is all about - taboo lyrics and all. That's right, for some reason The Donnas were pegged to open for megastars Maroon 5 on their North American tour. There are just two Canadian stops on the Maroon 5 tour, but The Donnas are taking the opportunity to play Canada more extensively.
The girls' first two Canadian shows will be before stadium sized audiences on April 11th and 12th in Montreal and Toronto, respectively. Following that they'll downsize to more modest venues for their remaining gigs in the country, venturing westwards from there. The Donnas' final gig will be in the sunny land of Vancouver, BC, on April 23rd, after three shows in the prairies.
Put on shelves late last year, The Donna's umpteenth record "Gold Medal" continues to push the band to even broader audiences. Their mainstream breakthrough came with 2002's "Spend The Night", which featured the hit single "Take It Off". They still play gritty punk rawk, but this time around the quartet has dropped the Ramones-inspired Donna monikers (that'd be Donna A, C, F, and R), instead opting to go by their real names.
The Donnas upcoming gigs:
April 11 Montreal, QC - Bell Center (w/ Maroon 5)
April 12 Toronto, ON - Air Canada Center (w/ Maroon 5)
April 18 Winnipeg, MB - Pyramid
April 20 Edmonton, AB - Starlite Room
April 21 Calgary, AB - Warehouse
April 23 Vancouver, BC - Richard's On Richards
