Jens Lekman Finally Hits Up Canada

Published: 2005-02-24
After a long-standing promise from his Canadian label Sonic Unyon, Swedish singer/songwriter Jens Lekman has finally put a Canadian stop on his North American tour. The singer/songwriter will be playing a show in Toronto on March 13th as part of Wavelength; he'll be joined by The Dating Service for the gig.

Lekman's spontaneous Toronto stop comes at the tail end of a 21-city tour of the United States. His cross-USA jaunt began back on February 5th in Indiana and is continuing on until mid-March, with the Toronto gig being the last announced. Lekman has been journaling his travels across the States on his web site, which is www.jenslekman.tk, and being the eccentric, arty type, the tales are generally amusing.

The reason Lekman has left his native Sweden behind - where he is well-known, and very much loved and adored - is to promote his debut full-length "When I Said I Wanted To Be Your Dog" to a new audience. Released on November 23rd, 2004 in Canada, the album features 11 brilliant tracks of Lekman crooning indie pop songs. Although "When I Said" is Lekman's first LP, he has an enormous back catalogue, both under his real name and the alias Rocky Dennis.

At his US label's site, there are quite a few rare Jens Lekman tracks available for free download. Visit the department store of forgotten songs at Secretly Canadian http://secretlycanadian.com/jenslekman/dept.htm to see what Lekman has to offer.
