Bette Midler: Wishes to Withdraw CD

Published: 2004-01-08
The Divine Miss M is shedding some light on the dreary winter days. Midler – who will be at the Canada Air Centre in Toronto on Monday January 12th – is using the tour to bring some fun and light to the winter days instead of promoting her latest album. The CD "Bette Midler Sings the Rosemary Clooney Songbook" has been nominated for a Grammy. Midler finds herself competing against Clooney herself for the best traditional pop album. Midler is not comfortable with this arrangement and wishes that she could withdraw her CD from the list. Midler says that Clooney's CD should win the award. Rosemary Clooney died in 2002. Midler's tribute CD to Clooney reached gold in December. Longtime friend Barry Manilow – who gave Midler the idea for the CD – presented Bette Midler with the award during his Christmas special on the Arts and Entertainment Network.
